About
IELTS International
English Language Testing System is designed to assess English language ability of
the candidates. This test is in 2 formats General and Academic. For
doctors aspiring to come to UK and Doctors taking PLAB test, should
take Academic format of IELTS test. Who
needs to take IELTS Test? If you are an International Medical Graduate applying for
GMC registration, you must pass IELTS test. The
only exceptions are: ·
Nationals
of member states of
the European Economic Area (EEA) other than the UK ·
Swiss
nationals who since 1 June 2002 benefit under European law. ·
UK
nationals who are exercising, their European Community (EC) rights of free
movement within the EEA. Generally speaking this means you must have
worked as a doctor in another EEA member state and be returning to the UK
to work. ·
UK
nationals and non-EEA nationals who are married to EEA nationals who are
exercising their EC rights of free movement within the EEA. Generally
speaking this means that your spouse must be coming to the UK to work. One
can take IELTS test at centers throughout the world in over 100 countries.

has 4 modules, Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. Candidates, who
are taking PLAB test, must have an overall band of 7 and 7 in
speaking. Those candidates who are exempt from writing PLAB test need to
have higher score of 7 in each module. You must then take part I of
PLAB test with in 2 years. Give
enough time for preparation. Keep in mind that if you are unsuccessful you
have to wait for 3 months before you can reappear. More
